Guidance for U.S. Candidates:
As you review the below areas of the competency framework, please consider that you need not have been examined on all of the material in order to be able to attest to your satisfaction. Through a review of recent syllabi from the Society of Actuaries and Casualty Actuarial Society, the Academy's Committee on Education believes that candidates who have recently completed the Associateship tracks of the SOA / CAS syllabus have likely satisfied competencies 1-10 and 12.
Depending on the specific exams, professionalism courses and other modules taken, candidates from the SOA and CAS may have satisfied some or all of other competencies as well through those exams. Beyond exams, candidates may have fulfilled the competency requirements through collegiate study, other seminars, or self-study. Many candidates will have been sufficiently exposed to other topics through their work activities.
For competencies where you check "Education" or "Work Experience," please provide a brief explanation in the comments field. Comments are optional but appreciated for exam-based competencies when special circumstances warrant clarification.
For each competency area, describe how your education and/or professional experience demonstrates your knowledge in this area.

Competency 11 (U.S. Financial Systems and Social Insurance Programs): Depending on your practice area and examination path, you may have gaps in knowledge of broader U.S. financial systems, banking regulations, or social insurance programs outside your specialty. Consider whether your work experience or additional education has provided exposure to these areas beyond what was covered in your actuarial exams.
Competency 13 (U.S. Laws and Regulations): While your actuarial designation likely covered core regulatory knowledge in your practice area, this competency includes broader legal and regulatory familiarity across multiple areas:
General legal principles
Data management and security laws
Risk classification laws
Premium development laws
Review the Guide to Assessment of Necessary Knowledge of U.S. Laws and Regulations (Competency 13). Only for Applicants Whose Primary Area of Practice is Life.
Review the sub-competencies (13a-13d) carefully to identify any areas where additional education or work experience may be needed to supplement your examination background.
Competency 14 (Ethics and Professionalism): If you have completed a professionalism course as part of your U.S. actuarial designation requirements, you can typically check "Exam" and reference your designation. However, if you obtained your designation before professionalism requirements were implemented, or if there are gaps in your professionalism education, you may need to supplement with additional education or relevant work experience.
For any competency where you check "Education" or "Work Experience," please provide a brief explanation in the comments field describing how you acquired the relevant knowledge.

If yes, describe the facts and circumstances of the conviction in a separate document and upload it here: Upload Document. Please name your uploaded document with your last name_first_name_legal action (e.g. Doe_John_legal_action).
A conviction does not automatically preclude you from membership in the Academy but will be considered (with your explanation) as part of the admission process. The facts and circumstances you provide will be reviewed, and additional clarifying information and references may be requested.
